Description

The Allen P. and Josephine B. Green Foundation is a private foundation with approximately $11 million in assets.  The mission of the Foundation can be summed up as “Improving the quality of life in Missouri”. The Foundation accepts grant applications from publicly and privately supported, non-profit [501(c)(3)] organizations whose objectives and programs generally fit within the mission of the Foundation. The Foundation’s Board of Directors consists of eleven members who meet twice a year to award grants and conduct other business essential to the Foundation.

The application form will reopen on January 15, 2024. The Foundation accepts applications on a rolling basis, but has two deadlines per year.

The deadlines for submission are:

Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 5 p.m. CST. Notifications will be sent in May 2024

Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 5 p.m. CST. Notifications will be sent in November 2024

Areas of Interest

  1. To support qualified organizations operating within the state of Missouri that relieve human misery, want and suffering regardless of age, race, religion or economic status
  2. To support both independent and institutional educational programs that develop and empower individuals of all ages to become more productive members of their communities
  3. To establish, maintain, and support student scholarships that further the educational opportunities for and objectives of highly qualified candidates
  4. To contribute to regularly organized religious institutions, and the establishment, preservation and rehabilitation of historically significant places, assets, programs and that make a meaningful and positive impact in their communities
  5. To support organizations and programs that seek to improve the health, wellness, longevity and happiness of members of their communities
  6. The programs hereby referred to may be open to any qualified group which, in the discretion of the Board of Directors, falls within the purposes of the Foundation

Preferences

  • Human and social service programs providing direct services to people in need
  • Youth development programs
  • Innovative developmental and educational programs for children
  • Health and hospitals (funding for research projects is not included in this priority)
  • Religious institutions with an emphasis on projects that support community churches and the provision of social services

Geography

The geographic focus of the Green Foundation is limited to central Missouri, including the counties of Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Montgomery, Monroe, Pike, Ralls, and Randolph. Any application that supports program delivery outside of the Green Foundation's geographical focus will not be considered.

Grant Requirements

Grant applicants must: 

  • Be a 501(c)(3) organization
  • Serve the geographical focus area of the Foundation

Restrictions

The Foundation does not fund requests: 

  • To individuals
  • To projects and programs located outside of the United States
  • To a charity that is not publicly supported
  • For social causes or for social activism
  • For lobbying, propagandizing, or for political campaigns
  • To requests deemed inappropriate for a variety of other reasons

Grant Range

The Foundation’s goal is to provide significant support to relatively few organizations. In general, grants range from $1,000 to $50,000 per year, and the Foundation will make one-year grants. Organizations that receive an award are not eligible to apply again in the same or next calendar year. 

Timeline

The Foundation will award grants twice per year, once in May and once in November.

  • Upload your annual Organization Budget for the organization's current fiscal year
  • Upload or enter a list of the organization's current Board of Directors

Reporting Requirements

All awarded projects are required to complete a final report. Report instructions will be sent to the applicant via email. Reports include narrative questions on the project and an itemized list of how grant funds were spent. Failure to complete the final report may impact future grant considerations.
